Printing report conditionally

Hi, all.
Have a report with a detail band and some fields connected to a database.
My client ask me to print this detail band only when applies certain condition, fex: field1 value = 100 and field2 value = 3
Where it's the best place to check this condition ? on detaild band OBP event or on each field OBP event ?
And the other requirement I have is that I have to check this condition only when printing the report but
not when previewing .. Is there any way to check if the client it's doing a preview or printing the report ?
