upgrade to FR2.52 to FR3

edited 12:18PM in FastReport 3.0
Hi,

veri simple questions and invitation for people to share their opinion and experience:
is it a good time to upgrade to FR3 from FR 2.52?
could I think FR3 is stable?

I already ready everything I found about moving to FR3 and converting reports to FR3. Please give attention and share your experience and any specific issues you faced.

10x a lot

My main concern are my end user who have written many of their own reports. Simple question- if programmers have hassles migrating Fr2,5 reports to fr3, what chance our users?

    Hi and 10x for point.

People please tell something more. Somebody who already did it or somebody from fastreport?

Ok I pass thru many topics regarding fr2toFr3 conversion.
    Do I miss something?
What happens if I do good export in our old version or good import utility in our new version based on FR3?

I am familiar with few things (including "[]" -> "<>" replacement in script.
I am familiar with memo and dataset property
.. and few other specific to some components/properties
Is there something more? Could you explain it shortly?
We are using almost everything. Events in delphi and script in reports, most regular components, etc.

Ok, I understand that customers which made complex reports using script, subreports, etc, etc. They are familiar and they could do it easy. But problem is they will have to do it and this takes time. So we plan to do something to help as much as possible.

Our reports are shared in internet. One easy option is to say them - you have to install both - old and new version. You have to use old version to access old reports. But again some customers could wish to convert their reports and it have to be easy task. Even if there is something like "modification with text editor", or like XML transformation, we want to make it simple or automated.

I am not familiar very much with new version. Do not have enough time to get more deeply. But please share, we need to plan it and to prepare. We will need it really soon.

    Kind regards,
    Plamen.

How is it easy when the customer has literally hundreds of reports with embedded code and variables and he then has to

    a- Open it in 2.53
    b- Save As
    c- Reopen in 3
    d- debug and edit.

That's not a solution and I cannot do that to my customers.

Or maybe I've missed something in the debate.

This really is a decision only the individual application designer can answer.
And I fully understand Pierres concerns, in that scenario it will depend upon how much latitude and separation the application programmer gave to the end user.
ie: were enduser customized reports kept separate from application fixed reports.
Since both fr2.5 and 3 can exist in the same app you can run both.
As I have stated previously i took this tack for my own apps
    new customers get fr3 only.
old customers can upgrade to new version with both or upgrade to new fr3 only and send us their customized reports for conversion (creates new revenue streams, this can be seen as a plus).
Suprisingly, some who were designing their own and opted for both, took to it very quickly and like 3 better, so i think sometimes road blocks we perceive are not neccessarily true.
BTW in my Apps the designer is a stand alone app and can be run through the main application or on its own.
All in all it is a decision only you can make.
    ;)

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
